At the last minute when we woke up this morning, we decided to pack up and head an hour away to Shell Island. Lolli had tried taking the kids twice when they were there and it ended up being closed both times due to weather. So the kids really wanted to go so we made it happen.
It was a neat little island. It is uninhabited and you have to take a ferry boat over (about 10 minutes away) and on the Gulf side of the island are huge waves and lots of shells to collect (pictures below). On the other side of the island are calmer and shallow waters great for snorkeling. We headed to the Gulf side first because Karis was dying to find shells.
Shell looking...
This is on the calmer side. There is a bigger section but we liked this little section because no one else was over there and good for the kids to look for things.
There was a storm rolling in which was great weather because it was cloudy the whole day until we were ready to leave and then it started raining. It was beautiful!
On our way back home, we wanted to make a stop halfway at Seaside which Jay and I have always loved. It is very high end and so chic. The houses are HUGE and it is just such a neat little community. We ended up staying around there until bedtime and enjoying the town. Check out some of the houses...amazing!
There are these really cool food trucks in the middle of town that are so neat!
The famous Pickles...we ate there last time we came.
They have some outdoor shops that are so cute.
We were already in our bathing suits from Shell Island so we let them have fun at the beach too.
JUMP!
Lucy was literally rolling in the sand. She had a ball!
In the center of Seaside they have this little grassy area and a theater which is great for kids to play around. Once a week they have a family movie here and there are blankets everywhere. It is such a family oriented place...I love it!
What a great day! We came home dirty and exhausted but it was all worth it!
